Dining room decorating is definitely not what it once was.


After this statement, please know that if you have a traditional home decorator with a formal dining room that displays your fine dining furniture complete with chandelier, wainscoating and Oriental rug, I think it's great! And, I hope you'll find a lot of pleasure and satisfaction than most traditional functions of this space.


For many readers, but (myself included), formal dining room from the past can not prove that the functional use of space for you. And this leads to three questions you should ask yourself before making any decisions or purchases for your dining room decor and design of the project.


(We make an assumption ... that you have a separate or semi-separate area of your home designated as a 'dining')


1 Think about your lifestyle before assuming that you will use this space as a dining area. For example, if you have fun and therefore need a space that can serve groups of guests? How many people currently living in your home ... need more space for meals on a regular basis? Do you even like to cook? Think about these things before you plan to buy a dining set. Maybe you do not need one!


2 See other function rooms and spaces in your home. Is the purpose for this space that would better serve your home and lifestyle? Some people think that home office, den / TV area, guest room, etc.


Maybe you are currently using guest room as a home office, but would really love to have a guest room back. Well, here goes! Use the dining room, or part of it, for your office space. You get the idea ...


Perhaps the combination of the above will suit your lifestyle perfectly!


3 What is your budget for buying furniture and decorating the dining room in general? Whatever your decision is that the function room, be sure that an honest assessment of the budget.


Consider cosmetic expenses, such as painting, flooring, decorative coverings, built-ins and window treatments. Then, the actual furniture that will be put in place, whether it be food of some sort, set up a home office or small Conversation / TV area.
